My family chose the Castle Tower because my two young boys love All-Things-Medieval. The package arrived in a relatively light box and took only five minute to assemble. Even those five minutes were too long for my boys though – they had their collection of dragons, princes, princesses, and even cars roaming in and out of the castle before I…..

Raileigh has a very vivid imagination, and it seems to grow daily by leaps and bounds. Perhaps that is because I actively seek out products that will help her learn to be more creative. If she is happy and entertained and is learning to stretch her imagination simultaneously, then I am one happy mom.

I recently came across a very exciting company that meets those objectives in each product that they sell. That company is Imagination Box Co. The makings for this company…………..

Toy Recalls…again….

Added: Saturday, October 2nd, 2010

Well, here we go again, toy recalls for Fisher-Price. In 2007 they recalled products due to high levels of lead found in the paint. This time it’s for parts that can  injure children or come off and possibly choke them. This is a big upset for the toy industry, following so closely on the heels of the 2007 recalls.

This is what I know to be true, as a small US manufacturer, it’s tough to play alongside the “big boys” of the toy industry, think ‘Mattel,Fisher-Price,Hasbro,etc…They’ve already captured such a large share of the market . They have lot of money to play with and don’t always have to play by the same rules as the rest of us. Unfortunately being that large of a company seems to have it’s share of issues, important ones, like Quality Control.

For small US manufacturers such as ourselves, QC seems to be an easier task. Imagination Box arts and crafts toys are made 70 miles from our place of business, making it a breeze to check on the quality of our toys and the practices in which they are made, and we do check….often!

The beauty of our toys lies not only in their simplicity, but also in the fact that they are bio-degradable.  Think about how often a plastic toy end up in a landfill. Now take it a step further and think about how long it will last in that landfill. Hmmm….the answer is forever. Plastic doesn’t just dissolve, it sits there and sits there and sits there….like forever!

Leading me to ask the question, what are toys all about? Kids, right? And who is going to end up living in the environment we leave behind? KIDS…our kids and grandkids and great grandkids.  So when a major toy company manufactures plastic toys which are made overseas (to keep that cost down), who receives that legacy? The toy company that’s who, in the form of $$$$$!

Imagination Box Co., along with other sustainable companies, have given thought to what happens to their toys in it’s last stages. It’s an important issue. Because it is all about the kids and the environment they live in. The bottom line is that without a healthy environment to live and grow in, well…..you can surmise that part on your own.

This all leads me to my next post…..when it comes to toys….Less Is More…..stay tuned!
